Congressman Ellison, in collaboration with the City of Minneapolis, is hosting a community meeting to talk about the status of RNAV – a type of navigation that puts planes on a more precise track, leading to consolidation of airplane traffic and noise.
The most recent Federal Aviation Policy bill requires the Federal Aviation Administration to implement the next generation of airplane navigation, conveniently known as NextGen. The law requires the FAA to implement NextGen at the 35 largest airports by 2025. The FAA states, “NextGen enhances safety, reduces delays, saves fuel and reduces aviation’s environmental impact.” http://www.faa.gov/nextgen/) A portion of NextGen is a series of departure and arrival procedures known at RNAV.
Minneapolis successfully halted implementation of RNAV over our city last November due to insufficient information and unanswered questions about how the consolidation of flights would affect residents in an urban setting. Minneapolis and partners were able to prevail upon the Metropolitan Airports Commission to request more time and to develop a better plan.
U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison is holding this forum to discuss the questions Minneapolis residents would like to have answered before RNAV’s implementation at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International airport. The information from this meeting will help clarify questions about RNAV and impact the FAA’s process.
Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) infestation was recently found in Lakewood Cemetery, which means that some of the more than 1,000 ash trees in Linden Hills might be infected now. High value trees can be saved, but many trees will die.
Come to one of two free workshops at the Linden Hills Park Building on Tuesday, August 27 at 7 p.m. or Saturday, September 21 at 9 a.m. to learn about options for dealing with this destructive pest. Most households in Linden Hills with an ash tree on their property also will receive a letter in early August announcing the workshops.
